Interview with Singer and Songwriter Lexi Lew

My latest interview is with Lexi Lew, a singer and songwriter, who has her roots in Georgia but living in Nashville. She has written a powerful song “Roses” which tackles the subject of depression. The video is powerful as wee, and I’m partial to couple of actors in the video because my sister Kandy and her daughter Ivy portrayed the mother/daughter in video. It’s a must watch and it will touch your heart. The link to it is at the end of the interview.
She also shared with me a motivational quote that she improvised on with her Mom: “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but I bet I could build it in two days.” Her point is if you try hard enough, something good will come out of it. I love that.

Maria–  Tell me about your song “Roses”, what inspired you to write it?

Lexi -A friend of mine was suffering from depression, and I wanted to let her know that I was there for her and she was not alone.
Maria- What do you want people to take from your song? What’s your message?
Lexi– The primary message that I want people to know is that, people who suffer depression are not alone. Depression is a true disease that many people suffer from and you shouldn’t be ashamed of it. Talk about it with friends or loved ones; let someone help you through your tough time.  If this song can help at least one person, then I feel my goal will be accomplished.
Maria- Is this your first video? What’s the experience like to work with the director and actors?
Lexi– First I just want to state, I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such talented people. Yes, this is my first official music video and I feel that it couldn’t have gone better. The actors were very passionate in their scenes and it helped make the video a huge success.
I am use to working primarily on the music production side of this business, so seeing the video side was very different but refreshing. I absolutely loved the change and can’t wait to do another video.
Maria- Who are your musical influences?
Lexi- Dolly Parton, Celine Dion, Chris Young, Michael Jackson, Ed Sheeran, Journey (just to name a few, many artists inspire me).
Maria– Is there anyone in the music industry that you would like to collaborate with on a song?
Lexi- Yes, Dolly Parton.
Maria– Who is your favorite singer or band?
Lexi– Its hard to pick just one favorite, all of my musical influences are my favorite.
Maria– Where do you see yourself in a year?
Lexi– Still in Nashville, hopefully with a publishing deal or record deal, just making music and touring.
Maria- Who do you look up to and why?
Lexi– My Mom, because she is a very successful and driven woman that works hard for everything she has and I hope to be so consistently driven to reach my goals as she has.
Maria– Are you reading any good books?
Lexi –“Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”
Maria- Tell me three things about you…whether it’s your hobbies or something no one knows about you.
Lexi– In May of 2016, I will be graduating from Belmont University with a bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering.
I intern at a very nice and successful studio in Nashville called The Rukkus Room.
In my spare time, I greatly enjoy outdoor activities; such as hiking, kayaking, or just hanging out by a fire.
Maria- Since it’s Christmas and the holidays,  do you have a favorite movie to watched during this time?
Lexi- My two favorite Christmas movies are “The Grinch” and “A Christmas Story”.
